June 28 is when the Coast shows what it’s made of.

It’s Buy Local Day – our region’s biggest celebration of independent businesses and the second year running of what’s already become an award-winning movement. Last year’s inaugural event saw businesses reporting real increases in foot traffic, with customers who discovered them on the day becoming regulars months later.

This year’s looking even bigger! After the initiative scored a nomination for Initiative of the Year in the Small Business Friendly Program Awards, whole precincts across the Coast are coordinating weekend-long celebrations with markets and live music.

Buy Local Day shines a spotlight on our amazing local businesses and the benefits of spending locally. It’s the first Saturday of the June school holidays, and it’s become a platform for businesses to connect with the community and a nudge for shoppers to discover what’s already in their backyard.

But here’s why we’re getting behind it: our members are the ones creating our “local” community. They’re building the experiences, clinics and services that make the Coast more than just a place people move to for the weather. When locals shop local on June 28, we want them to support businesses run by people under 35 who decided this region was worth betting on!
